About My Commuter Check
Your employer has chosen to provide you with the only benefit that can save you money and help the environment at the same time. Commuter benefits allow participants to use pre-tax dollars similar to a flexible spending account to pay for commuting expenses like using public transportation, vanpools, biking to work, and paying for parking.

The economics of saving on your commute
By using pre-tax dollars to pay for all or a portion of your commute, Uncle Sam can't tax you on that part of your income which can save you up to 40% on your commute annually. There are limits; currently you can deduct up to $130/month in pre-tax dollars for Transit and $250/month in pre-tax dollars for parking from your paycheck to help defray your commuting expenses. As for the bike benefit you can take advantage of a $20 per month subsidy which can go toward purchasing a new bike, equipment, or repairs. The IRS Changes the limits annually so please refer back to this website for updates to the limits.
